Ever since its artistic discovery, words, images and songs have been dedicated to the cloud as the most ephemeral of masterpieces: it serves as a multifaceted, meaningful substitute for every emotional and spiritual state. The depiction of the cloud has evolved from early spiritual and sacred interpretations, parallel to research in the humanities and natural sciences, to the present day. The transcendental analogies of the cloud concept continue to expand, describing digital and analogue networks, global relationships and symbolising a new perception of space. Despite its ever-expanding range of meanings, the cloud remains a never-quite-tangible fascination for people and science. For the practical part of my Master's thesis, I have chosen to illustrate this fascination.
