In 2022, the Pinakothek der Moderne will celebrate its twentieth anniversary. This anniversary provides an opportunity to look at the museum's architectural history from a contemporary perspective. In this presentation, the four collections comment on their shared building in terms of its spatial design and presentation. It recalls the initial vision and alternative designs of the 1992 design competition, the construction process leading up to the opening in 2002, and its use over the last 20 years. The retrospective also offers an opportunity to look beyond the building's eventful history and ask about its potential for the future. The exhibition is a call for reflection, discussion and celebration. After twenty years, the potential of the building needs to be discussed again.
